Klaire's 1st swim!

Everything's falling into place now. I wanted to give Kirsten more time. I set half a yr for her to adapt to school. She kept crying at the doorstep when we send her. She will wail, koala hug me and kept repeating Mama,Mama....I can't bear to leave her too, but I just have to do it. Every morning, I went to work feeling lousy and felt I'm a lousy mother. BUT, I was met with a lovely surprise come just last week, exactly a month later after she attended school. She happily went in without any fussing! She even cooperates and opens her mouth to let the teacher checks for signs of HFMD. I was overjoyed. Even as the door closed and I peep through the window, I can see she was trying to remove her shoes and putting them in the designated spot in the cupboard. So determined and cute.. My girl has grown..

Klaire's eczema comes and go. She had four lil teeth now. Because of her itchy gum, she's drooling big time and she kept bringing everything and anything to chew. All these led to the rashes near her mouth. Poor lil apple.
We brought her for her 1st swim(like finally!) at Hard Rock Hotel (Thanks to sista cleo and family) and this lil girl really enjoys being in the water! she can float neatly with a neck float without struggling. Even as I guide her in the water, her legs will naturally kick backwards! amazing! Whereas, Jiejie(JJ) is super kiasi. We had to coax her for like 5 mins b4 she agrees to go in the pool. And she still doesn't dare to go near any splashing water that are meant for play. Lousy ya? Meimei(MM) is much better.. Way to go MM!

Testing my new camera and used Klaire as a model!

Kirs posing as "pretty girl" when we visited Celia in TMC

Went Qing Ming at CCK cemetry..All hot n sweaty and dunno where she's looking. But much improvement now as she will gladly gek a smile for photo taking these days..

To the pool! Wwweeeee............

And finally in the hotel room..Klaire sitting for a few good mins b4 and chewing stuffs again! gosh!

My 1st Skool

Kirsten went to school on the 1st of March. I accompanied her for 2 half days. She was okay, did not cry at all. Quiet and observant, she was reserve and likes to observe the other kids while hiding at a corner. Separation anxiety comes after 1-2 days after I stopped accompanying her. She would cry at the door and koala hug me. Best is when she keeps crying for Mama mama mama...makes me feel so sad..
I have to endure for this is a passing phase. It is a new challenge for me and her. Hope she can adapt soon and loves to go school eventually!

She's a gem and cooperates fully when I wana get a passport photo of her for her enrollment form. She's jus so cheeky n lovable with her "gek" smile...

Her first day in school.

And Klaire has recovered from her eczema! She's smiley always..

Her milestone to date -
* Eating solids and sucking water from straw.
* 2 lil teeth at bottom at 6 mths plus
* Sit unsupported for a while
* Blabber alot of funny babyish! Much more then Kirs! ( I tried videoing it, but seems like after she saw my phone she;'s more interested in the phone -_-!)

Klaire has eczema.....

Klaire had gone for her six month vaccination last week. Weighing 7.3kg, 66.5cm.

At first, only the area near her mouth had rashes and the nurse said that it might be milk rash which seems perfectly fine and logical to me.

Just last weekend, her rashes worsen and her nose and eyes have red dried scaley patches. I knew its not that simple afterall. The pd confirmed that it is eczema, which puzzled me cos all of us do not have this skin problem at all. Now, we just have to bath her with the medication wash, apply medical cream and moisturize her everyday. I hope my poor baby recovers fast. She's happy..but I know the itchiness is taking some smiles of her away as of now...sighs....

Eczema (also known as dermatitis) is the term used to describe a range of skin conditions characterised by very dry, itchy skin. Other common symptoms include a reddening, cracking, swelling or scaling of the skin as well as tiny bumps that bleed or ooze, although it is not contagious. Eczema can occur anywhere on the body but in babies it mainly manifests itself on the scalp, forehead, chest and around the joints. In more severe cases it can be incredibly itchy and irritating for your baby and may even disrupt their sleep.

What causes baby eczema?
A large number of babies suffer from atopic eczema which is largely hereditary based and tends to develop around 2 -3 months of age. The term atopic refers to an oversensitivity of the immune system which causes sufferers to react to aspects of their environment that would not normally elicit an immune response. There is no real way of knowing whether a baby will develop atopic eczema although there is a increased chance if other members of the family suffer from atopic conditions such as eczema, asthma or hayfever themselves.

Irritant contact and allergic contact eczema are also common and tend to be brought on by either prolonged (irritant) or immediate (allergic) exposure to a specific allergen. Suffering from one type of eczema increases the chance that you will develop other types, so if your baby suffers with atopic eczema you may notice that exposure to certain things in his or her environment causes flare ups.

How can I treat it?

Unfortunately, because atopic eczema is an allergic condition there is no specific catch-all treatment, however there are several remedies that may help to improve the condition of your baby's skin and reduce irritation significantly.

Moisturise - As eczema is characterised by very dry skin, keeping your baby's skin moisturised can really help to reduce discomfort - try generously applying an emollient several times throughout the day but especially after a bath. While baby lotion or oil can be used for this your doctor may be able to recommend a more effective moisturising cream (as you may find that even special baby products may irritate your baby's skin).

Careful bath times - Bathing your baby in lukewarm (rather than warmer) water will help your baby's skin to retain moisture and stay hydrated. You should avoid using soap based bath products and instead go for those designed for babies with sensitive skin. Leave washing your baby with product until just before you take them out the bath as this means they will not be sitting in 'soapy' water. Additionally, you should always pat rather than rub your baby dry as rubbing removes some of the much needed oils that form part of the skin's defence.

Avoid detergents - Household detergents such as washing powders can be irritating to your baby's skin so try to use sensitive products and dry linen outside on the line rather than in the tumble dryer whenever possible.

Choose cotton - Clothing your baby in cotton rather than in synthetic or woolen materials will enable your baby's skin to breathe and help to reduce irritation. Cotton bedding will again stop your baby from overheating, becoming clammy and flaring up.

Go dust free - Keeping your home and especially your baby's nursery dust free may help to reduce eczema flare ups. Keep soft furnishings in the nursery to a minimum and try to hoover as often as possible. Keeping your home well aired should help too. If you have longer pile carpets rather than wooden or laminate flooring, sitting or laying your baby on a cotton or plastic playmat can be better than playing directly on the carpet.

Keep pets away - Pet hair is a common irritant so at the minimum you should keep your pets out of your baby's nursery and wash your baby's hands when they have been touching animals.

Diet - There is a limited amount of evidence that suggests sensitivity to certain foods can cause eczema flare ups. If you are in the process of weaning your baby you should make sure you introduce one food at a time so that you can notice any reactions. You should also make sure that you follow current recommendations for when to introduce certain foods into your baby's diet, leaving more 'allergenic' foods such as cow's milk and wheat til later. Breastfeeding your baby until they are at least 4 months old is one of the best ways to minimise eczema, however you may need to look at your own diet if they are showing sensitivities. However, you should never restrict your own or your baby's diet without seeking the advice of your doctor first. If you think that your baby has a problem with certain foods see your healthcare provider at once.

Minimising scratching - Itching and scratching can make eczema flare ups worse by breaking the skin and letting infections in. Try keeping your baby's nails short and fitting them with cotton mittens and socks before a nap to help to reduce this.

Klaire at 4 mths on...

Klaire has found her feet!(goodness! must practice precaution) and she loves blowing raspberries and eating her own fists...

I would described her as cheeky and cheerful. Very generous with her smiles....She's scared of loneliness though, needs our constant chattering with her. Once you left her alone, she will start whining. Loves to be carried in a sit up or stand up positions. I rem Kirs was like dat too. Are all babies so naughty?

To date, she's a really totful baby, did not bring us much hassle.(Shh...cannot say in front of her) The only thing with her is her reflux. She will puke or leak out milk even after she had finished her milk hours ago. So we have to wipe her and change her frequently. I have stop breasfeeding after the Taiwan trip. So when i went back to work, I do not have to pump. The timing was about the same as Kirs..stopped at about 3+ months.

Everybody say Klaire looks like daddy. She have beautiful eyes. I do feel guilty as I do not spend as much time with her. Most of my attention goes to Kirs now as she's more active and in the learning stage.

I promise you darling, Mummy is really guilty. I love you as much as Jiejie and U will always be my lil precious princess. Look forward to wonderful journey ahead with you.....

Flipped!

Yeah she flipped today!! ok..technically yesterday.....

one hand kena stuck...hehe..

We celebrated lil Kyle's 1st bday at Tung Lok in Orchard Central. Time really flies! Seems just not long ago when I visited him in Gleneagles. It was Sesame Street theme and lil Kirs and Klaire went too. Maybe it was a rainy day and the restaurant was too cold. Klaire had a bad ordeal..cant sleep n cant drink.keep crying...hmmm Poor baby...

Jacob Ballas Children Garden

One cool sunny day, we went to Botanica Garden with Genie/Dylan, Cleo/Kyle and Becky/James/Baby for a hearty breakfast. The cafe is open concept and serves big servings of western and chinese food. I would definitely love to bring Rie there too cos the ambience is nice and cheery. The children are fascinated with the mynahs hoping around. One naughty mynah even flew to our table and pick at our scramble eggs while we were busily chatting and when no ones looking! So OMG naughty! lol

Me n Kirsten

Genie n Becky's baby

After breakfast, we stroll to Jacob Ballas Children Garden...The day was so Sunny! I'm was very exhausted cos I had to lug a big diaper bag and lazy girl keep wanting me to carry....Gosh...But she did walk a distance, with some of the time Dylan holding her hand...Aww..so sweet...

The kids were so thirsty and happy when they reach. Busily pushing chairs and drinking water at the Kids Cafe.

Then we went to the Splash Corner to play with the water! Luckily Auntie Genie brought an extra swimming diaper. But Kirsten is scared of the water. Only dare to look at a distance and point. She refuse to get wet. She was so whiney and adding to that, a boy ran and knock her down . Poor baby was crying and so cranky...sob sob...

Finally, we ended about 12pm and went back to Auntie Genie's place for lunch.

Becky and her 4 weeks old baby. She's so awesome! Becky and her hubby adopted their 2 Asian babies. James is gog to be 2 years old and baby is only 4 weeks old. She looks after em all on her own and she brought both of them out for outings. I can never do dat unless with helper!

Pumpkin K.O soon after she finished her lunch while the boys were still playing! haha boys r boys! full of energy! But after that, we had a peaceful 2 hours cos all the mummies and babies K.O! ahahhaha

And not forgetting my Klaire signing off with a twinkle of smile even when drinking her milk ...Lovely!

Klaire is 2 mths old...

Finally!! My 2 darlings are recovering from the cough and flu virus...

Last last week was horrendous...Kirs was running a high fever (rch max of 40.4C), having flu and phelgmy cough...Just when her fever was subsiding and returning to her bubbly self, Klaire is down with flu n hacking cough... Very headache for me cos Klaire was only 6 weeks old...

Sleepless nites for myself, my helper and mum....Kirs temp will shoot up at nite and will cry like mad. When give her the med, she will vomit. Imagine giving her 1 type of medicine is torturous enuff..We have to stuff 6 types of diff med to her..Hell! Help and help!

Klaire's med is easier to feed, jus dat she doesnt drink much n sleeps alot..worrying too as milk is only her source of nutrients and we have to wake her up for feed..Seeing her like dat also pains my heart...

Luckily all's over and now on the road to recovery..........!!
